Discussion Questions
Using your textbook or smart phone, please answer the following:
1. Draw an animal cell in a hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic
solution. Using an arrow, show the direction of water
flow.
Hypotonic solution Isotonic solution Hypertonic Solution
Reminders
Final Draft is past due!!
Check the webpage if you are absent!
If you are growing plants for Science Fair you need to start
Start working on your Science Fair Laboratory Composition
Notebook. Follow the instructions in your Science Fair
packet carefully. It tells you exactly what to do and how
to do it.
Cell Root Word Quiz is TOMORROW 10-14-14
Cell Exam is on 10-16-14 (you should have read chapter 7)
Monday Naked Egg “Eggs-periment”
Working in your same “Egg” groups you will complete the last part of the
Egg Lab
1. Pour the corn syrup and molasses into the trash (NOT
the sink)
2. Make qualitative observations (describe, draw and
label)
3. Make quantitative observations Get the mass of your
egg in grams (keep it in the cup; you already know the
mass of your cup from Day 1). Record in your journal.
4. Put the cup and the egg in the trash.
5. Be ready to share your results with the class after the
ppt notes and practice problems from Friday
Cell Membrane
(and transport) Notes
And Naked Egg “Eggsperiment”
Finish the ppt & Practice Problems
Discuss the lab
Post Lab “Eggs-periment”
What did the egg represent in our experiment?
What happened to the egg when we placed it in vinegar?
What happened to the egg when placed in water? Corn
syrup? Molasses? Why?
Was the water a hypertonic, hypotonic or isotonic solution?
How about the corn syrup? Molasses?
How could this relate to real life and YOU?
“Cell-f-ies”
“Osmosis Practice Problems”
Working with your shoulder partner, complete the practice
problems.
EXIT TICKET
1. Please describe how osmosis and diffusion are different.
2. Please compare and contrast endocytosis and exocytosis.
3. How do these types of endocytosis differ: phagocytosis and
pinocytosis
4. Compare and contrast hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic solutions
EXIT TICKET
1. Please explain why a cell must have a
semipermeable membrane.
2. Please describe the plasma membrane
and explain the function of each
component
EXIT TICKET
1. Please create an analogy, the ribosome is
like……..
2. What are some differences between
plant and animal cells?
3. Create an analogy, the mitochondria is like…
EXIT TICKET
Eaves 5-7th periods did this one
1. Please compare and contrast Eukaryotic
and Prokaryotic Cells (be sure to give
examples of each)
2. What are some differences between
plant and animal cells?
3. Create an analogy, the mitochondria is like…
EXIT TICKET
1. Please give an example of an Eukaryotic
cell.
2. What are some differences between
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
3. Please give an example of a Prokaryotic cell.
EXIT TICKET
1. REVIEW- Explain how natural selection acts
on variation within a population.
1. Explain how to calculate total magnification
in microscopy.
Oral Conclusion
1.
2.
Please give an example of a limiting factor
Describe one way humans are impacting the nitrogen
cycle
3. Describe one way humans are impacting the carbon
cycle

an ecosystem? Organism?
5. Give an example of a producer. A consumer>
6. Describe biological magnification.
7. Give an example of an abiotic factor. A biotic factor.
8. Describe an invasive species and give an example.
9. Why does only 10% of the energy move from trophic
level to trophic level?
10. How is primary succession different from secondary
succession?
