Review Test 2 Life , Cells, Cell Processes
1. List the three points of the cell theory.
1. All living things are composed of cells
2. Cells are the basic unit of structure and
function of living things ( cells are Alive)
3. Cells come from Cells
2. List the functions of the following organelles.
Mitochondria, Endoplasmic Reticulum, Ribosomes,
Golgi Body, Nucleus, Chloroplasts, vacuoles,
lysosomes, cytoplasm
3. What is diffusion and how does it help the cell.
When molecules move from high concentration to
low concentration. It helps the cell by moving
helpful items like oxygen into the cell and waste
products like CO2 out of the cell
4. What is osmosis. The movement of water across
a semi-permeable membrane. Also, the diffusion
of water
5. Who was Robert Hooke ? Named and discovered
cells while viewing cork cells
6. Who was Anton van Leeuwenhoek ? Viewed tiny
one cell organisms called animalcules and the first
to look at bacteria
7. Who was Matthias Schleiden and Theodor
Schwann They discovered that all living things are
made of cells
8. Look at the experiment of Redi and Pasteur on
page 22-23. What is the manipulated variable in
Redi’s experiment ? The lids on some jars and not
on others
.
9 Why are organelles important for a cell ? They all
work together in order to keep the cell alive. They
each have a specific job to carry out, much like the
organs inside our body
10.What is the difference between active and passive
transport ? Active transport requires energy and
passive energy doesnot require energy. This is how
cells move items in and out
11. How was the invention of the microscope
important for cell theory? It allowed scientists to
actually view the cells for the first time.
12. How are plant and animal cells different and how
are they similar ? A plant cell has a cell wall and
chloroplasts in which animal cells do not. Otherwise
they contain the same organelles, are alive, and are
the building blocks of living things
