Syllabus for Upper Division Decade Courses
All Psychology Major must take 3 decade courses. Allows students to see what the classes
explore






Psychology 110- Introduction to Biological Psychology
Psychology 120- Introduction to Cognition
Psychology 130- Clinical Psychology
Psychology 140-Developmental Psychology
Psychology 150-Psychology of Personality
Psychology 160-Social Psychology
Statistics Section
All Psychology Majors must take Psych 101. It is considered the hardest class in the course by
many. Below is a list of items I think would be most helpful in providing supplemental material
and formulas.




Formulas: Z-test, 1&2 way T-Tests, ANOVA, and Regression
Step by Step Videos: Youtube Tutorial for Problems one of each
A collection of practice problems
Graphs of different types of equations with explanations
DSM Classifications
The following disorders are the most common disorders covered in class and should be complied
on a single PDF with all symptoms and DSM criteria.
The DSM is the Diagnostic Criteria used to assess patient’s symptomology and mental health.
They are expensive and most undergraduates do not purchase them. However a number of
classes ask for symptomology in their exams.
 Depression
 Bi-Polar 1
 Bi-Polar 2
 Schizophrenia
 ADHD
 Anorexia
 Bulimia
Case Studies
I think a couple of case studies on the site would be extremely helpful. Case studies are a way for
students extended beyond key terms and diagnosis a situation on context and material learned
for class. This also gives students practice at test-like questions.
 Clinical Case Studies
 Personality Case Studies
 Social Psychology Case Studies
The Next Section is a list of Concepts used across multiple classes within the Psychology, MCB,
and Neuroscience departments.
Different Types of Research Studies
A table containing all the types of Research Studies with a description and an example would be
helpful. This is on the first midterm for almost every decade course.
 Longitudinal
 Observational
 Case Study
 Archival
 Experiment
 Twin Study
Neurotransmitter
Berkeley’s Psychology program takes a biological approach. Neurotransmitters are the primary
cell studied in psychology and their structure is studied in almost every class.
 Anatomy
 Action Potential, IPSP, EPSP
 Synapse
Big 5 Personality Traits
This is a theory put forth by Berkeley Professor John Oliver. It describes the 5 major
facets of personality and how they affect people’s behavior.
Piaget Vs. Erikson Vs. Freud
All three of these developmental psychologists created their own stages of
development. Many students get confused who said what so a clear table with all their
stages on top might help to see similarities and differences.
Neurochemistry and Drugs
 Principal Neurotransmitters table
 Agonist vs. Antagonist
 5 common ways Neurotransmitters work
 Table of Drugs w/ classification & Effects
Parasympathetic Vs. Sympathetic
These deals with the biological pathways are body deal with stress. The alternating of
these two pathways is common in psychological disorder. A table detailing the effects
of both and examples of when they are triggered would be helpful.
