Practice counting in tens from any number. E.g. 6, 16, 26, 36 A number x 2 is just a number doubled! E.g. 14 x 2 is really 14 + 14 Practice with 1 or 2 digit numbers Practice doubling single numbers. E.g. 6+6 Then 2-digit numbers E.g. 16 + 16 Chant your times tables Add two 2digit numbers – then cover the together – partition the numbers and test numbers in your head. yourself! E.g.:24 + 24 is 20+20 and 4+4 added together Take away 9 by taking Add 9 to different away 10 and then adding numbers by adding 10 1 back on. and taking 1 away! E.g. 17 – 9 = E.g. 17 + 9 = 17 – 10 (7) + 1 = 8 17 + 10 (27) – 1 = 26 Take away 11 by taking Add 11 to different away 10 and then taking numbers by adding 10 1 more off. then adding 1 more! E.g. 17 – 11 = E.g. 17 + 11 = 17 – 10 (7) - 1 = 6 17 + 10 (27) + 1 = 28 Round two digit numbers to the nearest ten. E.g. 47 to 50 or 43 to 40 Challenge yourself to round three digit numbers as well!
