Position Description
Position Title: Senior Marketing Communications & Recruitment Coordinator
Position Context / Purpose
This is a generalist role that sits within Colleges and Central Hub – part of Marketing and
Recruitment Division servicing the College of Science, Health and Engineering. The Colleges and
Central Hub function within Marketing and Recruitment provides services to La Trobe University
Colleges, schools, departments and campuses with a focus on integrated marketing strategies for
specific disciplines and related target markets. The College team is responsible for liaising with
College stakeholders, coordinating integrated marketing activities, coordinating academic support
for recruitment events, and reporting back to College stakeholders on marketing effectiveness.
More broadly The Colleges and Central Hub function works in collaboration with a number of
Marketing & Recruitment teams including:
 Media and Communications
 Digital Engagement and Recruitment,
 Schools Engagement and Student Recruitment
 Market Development
 Market Strategy
 And also La Trobe International
The Colleges and Central Hub function also consults with, and to, a range of internal stakeholders
including:
 School of Allied Health
 School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
 School of Life Sciences
 School of Molecular Sciences
 School of Nursing and Midwifery
 School of Psychology and Public Health
 School of Rural Health
 School of Applied Systems Biology
 School of Cancer Medicine
 And other administrative groups, including but not limited to: Student Administration,
College Education Team, and Placement Operations.
The Senior Marketing Communications & Recruitment Coordinator will be assigned a suite of
disciplines and will drive the development of marketing communications and recruitment activities
that drive the marketing strategy for these programs. The Coordinator will be expected to attend
recruitment events and functions as required. The successful candidate will possess the following
attributes:

Excellent interpersonal skills and a capacity to establish rapport with key stakeholders at all
levels through effective consultation and listening skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confident presentation manner.

Excellent skills in researching, writing, editing and producing marketing content and materials to
support marketing and recruitment efforts.

highly developed organizational and project management skills to ensure time and budget
requirements are met
Key Areas of Accountability
The Senior Marketing Communications & Recruitment Coordinator will:
1. Research and develop marketing communications & recruitment plans to support target
disciplines & markets and agree the scope of those plans with internal stakeholders.
2. Coordinate the delivery of plans and projects across the interests of separate work units by
providing an account management interface between College stakeholders’ internal service
providers (e.g. Digital Marketing & Recruitment, Media & Communications) and other central
administrative functions (e.g. student administration). This will include:
o Liaison with College stakeholders to secure their participation in events and other
marketing activities, and to keep them informed on upcoming marketing events,
campaigns and projects.
o
development of marketing briefs and plans for internal & external service providers
o
Management of project timelines and approval processes, including large scale projects
that may be led by other work units (e.g. Course Guides).
o
provision of marketing advice, guidance and support to College stakeholders in
accordance with La Trobe standards and guidelines
o
attendance at university recruitment events
3. Independently monitor and review content for assigned target disciplines (e.g. web pages,
videos, presentations) to ensure La Trobe’s materials remain accurate, compelling and effective
4. Initiate development or re-development of innovative and engaging discipline content that
clearly articulates the value propositions of specific La Trobe programs to specific audience
groups.
5. Plan and execute a product training plan for assigned target disciplines to ensure customerfacing staff understand the key benefits of specific programs and are able to counsel students
accurately.
6. Identify and coordinate the distribution of all marketing content through various marketing and
recruitment channels
7. Tracking the effectiveness of specific content improvements in terms of impact on marketing
and recruitment outcomes and reporting this information back to internal clients.
8. Develop and occasionally deliver engaging presentations on La Trobe programs to prospective
students and other audiences.
9. Lead the development of standards, guidelines, checklists and support documents to streamline
efficient management of projects.
10. Undertake special projects or other duties within the designated function of the position as
requested by the Manager, Marketing, Recruitment and Development or the College Marketing
Partner.
Key Selection Criteria
ESSENTIAL
1. Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or another related field and/or
knowledge, training and at least four years subsequent experience appropriate to account
service, content development or product marketing.
2. Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively.
3. Demonstrated high level of problem solving skills and the organisational ability to manage
several different projects concurrently.
4. Demonstrated skills in desk research and the evaluation, interpretation and analysis of various
data points into an executable plan of action
5. Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and demonstrated ability to set and manage
priorities within own area of responsibility.
6. Demonstrated experience in creating, curating and delivering a wide variety of marketing
content across a range of channels (print, digital, etc.) and translating complex information into
compelling and engaging content and information.
7. Demonstrated success in achieving marketing objectives or growth targets.
8. Demonstrated experience in project management across marketing, content development
and/or events.
9. Demonstrated ability to thrive in a complex organisational structure, involving multiple
stakeholders within a pre-existing landscape of policy, procedures and processes to achieve
stated outcomes.
