We are pleased to announce the: th 7 Internat. Symposium on Amino Acid / Protein Metabolism in Health and Disease Aula Morgagni, University Hospital of Padova, Italy, July 4th-5th, 2008. Organizer: Prof. Paolo Tessari These Symposia on Protein Metabolism and turnover have been periodically organized since 1986. The 2008 program is focused on the mechanisms and pathways controlling Protein Expression and Turnover in Health and Disease, with emphasis on Catabolic States, Ageing, Exercise and Hormone treatment. A session on Proteomics and its application to metabolic studies is included. Invited speakers: G. Biolo, I. Bertini, Y. Boirie, P. De Feo, M. Deutz, G. Garibotto, M.W. Haymond, M.L. Hribal, L. Luzi, M. Mann, A. Maran, K.S. Nair, G. Palù, L. Pinna, B. Rasmussen, M.J. Renne, B. Rasmussen, M. Sheffield-Moore, S. Schiaffino, P. Tessari, G. Toffolo, E. Volpi, F.M. White. The sessions and topics discussed in the Symposium are listed below: 1st session: Protein wasting in human disease: pathophysiological and clinical aspects Molecular and cellular mechanisms of protein wasting Intracellular signals of protein synthesis Amino acid catabolism and glucose homeostasis Kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes Mechanisms of muscle wasting and counteractive anabolic signals Nutritional and contractile regulation of muscle protein synthesis Untoward effects of bed rest Exercise, lifestyle and metabolic parameters 2nd session: Exercise and ageing Regulation of protein turnover in ageing Insulin resistance and protein metabolism in ageing Can exercise reverse muscle changes related to ageing? 3rd session: Proteomics, protein turnover and disease markers Basic principles and technological overview of protein identification Mathematical and bio-informatical aspects of proteomics Phospho-proteomes in health and disease Protein expression changes in type 1 diabetes Proteomic analysis of different subcellular fractions in type 2 diabetes From proteomics to metabonomics Panel discussion: Hormone treatment and muscle anabolism (insulin, growth hormone, androgens) Call for papers: Oral presentations and posters on the above topics are welcome! Deadline for Abstract presentation (250 words) is May 31st, 2008.
