September 17, 2014 Fighting Climate Change Industrialised countries should financially assist Seminar told Staff Correspondent Brac University (BU) in collaboration with a global network of activists, Avaaz, yesterday urged the prime minister to ask industrialised countries to provide financial and technological assistance to the countries which are affected by climate change. The prime minister should also ask the industrialised states to curb their green house gas emission, they added. They made the comments at a seminar titled “People's March for Climate Justice” in BU auditorium in the capital. The activists will bring out a procession on September 20 from Shahbagh to Jatiya Press Club to make people aware of the threats of climate change. The Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon has invited the heads of the governments, businesses and civil societies of the world to a climate summit in New York on September 23, they added. Kumar Murshid, an Avaaz volunteer, said, “Industrialised countries, which are causing climate change, should provide necessary assistance including immigration opportunities to people who may become climate refugees."
