A102 REFRESHMENTS IN FOYER 3:45 PM AND FOLLOWING SEMINAR Tuesday, October 26, 2010 “Catchers in the Rye: Ecology, Society, and Climate Change” Dr. Joshua Tewksbury Associate Professor Department of Biology University of Washington Anthropogenic climate change is fundamentally changing natural systems and the pace of change will force changes in many aspects of human society. Ecology has an important role to play in predicting, mitigating, and adapting to changing climate, but ecology, as a discipline, will need to more expansive, collaborative, and responsive to society if it is to have a strong voice in directing our response to climate change. Here I describe attempts in my lab to address the interactive issues surrounding climate change on scales ranging from the thermal physiology of insects to global food security, and working with a range of stakeholders and collaborators, from land managers and transportation planners to physiologists, climatologists, and economists.
