Cells Unit 4 What is a cell? • Remember, a cell is the basic unit of life!!! What are the 2 types of cells? • There are 2 types of cells: 1. Prokaryotic 2. Eukaryotic How do I know the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells? Prokaryotic Eukaryotic •Nucleus •No nucleus •Very Simple •Have DNA •One cell •Have cell membrane •Example: Bacteria •Are living •Very Complex •Many cells •Example: Plants, Animals, Fungi, Protists There are rules for cells called: 1. All living things are composed of cells 2. Cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things 3. New cells are produced from existing cells What are cells made of? • Cells have “little organs” that help them work, called organelles.
