Providing care and support in your community Marketing & Communications Officer This job description gives an outline of the main objectives of the post, but is not intended to be a fully inclusive list of tasks. Roles and responsibilities are likely to evolve and develop in line with organisational change. The job description will be subject to regular review with the Marketing & Communications Manager. Responsible to: Marketing & Communications Manager. Salary The salary falls within scale 05Z1 – 05Z3. Hours of Work/Location The contracted hours are 36.25 a week. Office hours are 9am to 5pm (flexible working). The post is based in Glasgow but travel to locations elsewhere in Scotland is a requirement of this post. Objectives To support the Marketing & Communications Manager to achieve Cornerstone’s strategic objectives and operational priorities goals by providing effective marketing and communications support to the people we support, staff, stakeholders and other outside agencies. Key Tasks Communication: 1. To deal with internal and external customers, whether by email, phone or in person, promptly and effectively in a courteous manner. 2. To liaise with outside agencies including print and design suppliers, the media and advertising agents. 3. To produce a variety of written communication items including marketing materials and newsletter copy, web pages, press releases. 4. To ensure that Cornerstone’s Corporate Guidelines are adhered to by providing relevant advice, guidance and support to staff. 5. To support members of the Marketing & Communications team on the effective delivery of actions, as directed by Marketing & Communications Manager. Planning & Organising: 1 1. To support the Marketing & Communications Manager with the delivery of Cornerstone’s brand and implementation of the overall marketing & communications strategy. 2. To plan and deliver projects including PR campaigns, marketing activities (including the production of promotional materials), fundraising campaigns and corporate/community events. 3. To support internal communications activity by developing newsletters and other staff resources and supporting the distribution of these tools. 4. To ensure team objectives and projects are achieved on time and within budget. 5. To coordinate activities relating to digital media, including content managing Cornerstone’s website and social media platforms. 6. To coordinate departmental CRM activity by maintaining team contacts, exporting data and coordinate mass communication activity. Teamwork & Working Relationships: 1. To support marketing and communications colleagues and team volunteers. 2. To work closely with staff at all levels in the organisation, providing professional advice and support in relation to marketing and communication activities. 3. To work closely with the Fundraising team to support the delivery of the annual fundraising strategy and its strategic objectives. 4. To liaise with a variety of colleagues to audit Cornerstone’s internal communications and update tools, including internet and e-communications, in response to feedback from staff. 5. To maintain good working relationships with corporate contacts and suppliers. 6. To represent the Marketing & Communications team at organisational meetings. 7. To be passionate about Cornerstone and ensure organisational mission, vision and values are reflected in all areas of work. Innovation: 1. To develop campaigns and events in support of the marketing strategy and fundraising activity. 2. To be creative in the development of a wide range of tools targeting various audiences – including newsletters, leaflets, easy read and accessible information, adverts, posters and news stories. 3. To support internal customers with the development of marketing plans and advertising activity. 4. To support the development of Cornerstone’s digital marketing strategy and manage the related day-to-day activity. Customer Focus: 1. To provide high quality support and advice to colleagues/customers in all areas of communications. 2. To involve the people we support in marketing activities including the publication of materials and attending local events and celebrations. 3. To carry out any other duties as deemed compatible with the status of the post. 3 Person Specification CRITERIA REQUIREMENT Educational Qualifications ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE Highers/HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Qualification in a communications or design subject (PR, marketing or advertising) Holder of or willingness to work towards professional qualifications in a job related subject. Experience Experience of working in a communications department Experience of CRM packages Proven experience of website content management systems Experience in design software such as InDesign and Photoshop Experience in copywriting for websites, newsletters and press releases Experience of assisting in the delivery of events Extensive experience of working in an administration/secretarial role. Extensive experience of office-related computer packages (e.g. word processing/spreadsheets etc.) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities An interest in photography Experience in advertising (negotiating deals and designing targeted adverts) Creative, innovative and imaginative approach to tasks Effective communication skills Organisational and time management skills Ability to produce high quality accurate work Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels Other Willingness to travel occasionally within Scotland A ‘can do’ attitude Willing to respond flexibly to emerging and/or changing circumstances 4 Values which align with Cornerstone’s Aim Willingness to work flexibly to meet external deadlines Satisfactory attendance record (DDA absences excluded).
