SMALL GROUPS
THE CELL CONCEPT
The body is made up of small
cells
These cells carry the DNA of
the body
They are programmed to
multiply or die.
This should be also true of
the body of Christ (Church)
This is God’s plan
The body of Christ is
intended by the Creator to have
cells in order for it to grow
All living things grow this
way
Even at creation it was so
God created a small group
Adam and Eve
The body of Christ must have
cells (small groups)
They too are programmed to
multiply or die.
They too are living, vibrant,
multiplying units, programmed
to multiply
Each cell has a reason to exist
 It does not live for itself
 It lives for the growth of the
Body of Christ
God never intended
Christianity to be a "Me, God,
and my Bible" lifestyle
DEFINITION OF A CELL
GROUP
A cell group is a group of
people (5 to 15), who meet
regularly for the purpose of
spiritual edification
Gospel outreach with the goal
of multiplication,
participation in the life of the
local church".
Groups meet in homes
weekly, biweekly or an agreed
upon time for plus or minus 1½
hours, following a set agenda.
While nurturing and
fellowship do take place at the
meeting the main focus is
outreach, (evangelism and
witness) the recruiting of new
members.
At the heart of a cell is
an evangelizing mind-set
with the goal of multiplication
In short, this is the Great
Commission of Jesus, "Go into
the whole world and proclaim
the Good News to all creation",
Mk 16 (16), being implemented
at the grassroots of the Church
PURPOSE OF CELL
GROUPS
To give and receive support.
To raise up new believers
(new cell members).
Strengthen the cell members
faith
To grow in an ongoing
intimacy with the Lord.
To share its Faith –
evangelizing by word and
lifestyle.
To grow in love for one
another.
To minister
CELL GROUPS NEED TO
HAVE
 Vision
Purpose
Expected outcomes

WITHOUT THESE
ACTIVITIES CELLS
BECOME
Fruitless,
 Stagnant
And they die
THE BIBLICAL/SOP
MODEL
Christ instructed them to go
They were to go out two by
two (Mark 6:7..)
 Brother was sent out with
brother (friends)
Thus they could help and
encourage each other,
counseling and praying
together. Each one’s strength
supplementing the other’s
weakness.
In our time evangelistic work
would be far more successful if
this example were more closely
followed (Evangelism 72)
Why is it that we have
departed from the method of
labor which was instituted by
the great teacher? (Evangelism
74)
THE NEW TESTAMENT
CHURCH
 They met in houses (Acts 12,
etc
This suggests small groups
They met for : PRAYER,
EDIFICATION,
AND EVANGELISM
And so should the
Church in the end of time
END
