Donor Engagement within the Development Office is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Director of Marketing. To this end, our Donor Engagement & Campaign Communications team is looking for passionate, dedicated professionals committed to sparking meaningful change right here, right now. This full-time strategic marketing position reports to the Executive Director, Donor Engagement & Campaign Communications. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Development Campaign team, the University Relations team, and other donor engagement, marketing, and communications staff across campus to build and enhance the profile and reputation of the University of Calgary from a philanthropic perspective, with particular emphasis on Energize: The Campaign for Eyes High. The Director of Marketing, Development, creates, articulates, and implements successful university-wide marketing strategies. This individual will assist the Executive Director, Donor Engagement & Campaign Communications, with building the marketing vision and direction for the University as it pertains to donors and prospective donors, including alumni. This includes creating various integrated strategies, ensuring successful implementation and measurement. The portfolio involves integrated marketing across both traditional and digital channels, advertising, creative services (including design, multi-media, photography and videography), promotional materials, publications, social media, and website management. All work will align with the overarching marketing strategy and vision of the university. The position demands vision, strategic and creative thinking and execution, program planning, fiscal accountability, marketing expertise, and experience with metrics and reporting. The Director of Marketing, Development will lead initiatives and support a collaborative culture within the Donor Engagement & Campaign Communications, Campaign Planning, and University Relations teams, the university, and various stakeholder groups. The position interacts frequently with the university's senior administration, faculty, students, alumni and employees at all levels, as well as external partners. There is the potential for significant impact on the university's reputation. The work environment is fast paced with a demanding workload, operating under tight deadlines with multiple competing priorities. This position is located at the University of Calgary Olympic Volunteer Centre; however, travel and participation in main campus and off-campus activities will be required. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 35 hours/week, but there may be the need to work outside of regular hours for certain events and for travel. The position has a copywriter, designer and production co-ordinator reporting directly to it, with considerable additional accountability for leading through influence. Currently in the quiet phase of a fundraising campaign and preparing for the university's 50th anniversary, work will focus on delivering a robust marketing plan and building cross-institutional relationships to ensure successful outcomes. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): o o o o o Strategic Planning / Projects Develop a strategic marketing plan to support the university's vision, goals and objectives as they relate to Development and philanthropy Develop and implement marketing strategies that provide strong, consistent positioning of the University of Calgary as a great place to give through in order to make a difference in the world. Advance awareness and broaden the university's brand recognition locally, nationally and internationally Communicate success stories related to the difference philanthropy makes to education, research and community engagement, by promoting and celebrating faculty, students, alumni, and donors Direct and develop appropriate tactics and tools to monitor and measure results to ensure that pre-established goals are achieved Support Development staff in fostering a high-performance work culture across the school Management o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o Establish marketing goals and objectives. Develop plans, establish metrics and reporting, and track and monitor to achieve goals Lead and initiate process improvements to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement and act as an ambassador of change management Develop and manage budgets and financial reporting for the marketing team Provide guidance and leadership to staff to ensure efficient and high quality service. This includes recruiting the right people, mentoring/training, establishing clear expectations, and performance management Assume management duties such as time approval, initiation of transactions, annual performance reviews, etc. Marketing Lead and implement a broad range of marketing and advertising campaigns, publications, direct mail, social media and website initiatives to promote Energize: The Campaign for Eyes High, and the university´s positioning and advance its reputation as it applies to philanthropy Collaborate and coordinate with the communications, alumni, and all fund development units to ensure objectives, strategies, and campaigns are aligned and synergized Act as a brand champion for Development and the power of philanthropy, upholding the university's visual identity. Lead and manage the implementation and use of brand guidelines and graphic standards throughout the unit Lead the creation, writing/editing and production of marketing materials, including the development of content plans and advertising calendars Direct, develop and implement a comprehensive advertising strategy which includes local, national and international reach. Establish metrics, monitor and analyze to maximize impact and effectiveness. Liaise and build relationships with key media outlets Lead and execute a comprehensive website plan and strategy to redesign and keep current with best practices, within the university’s structure and standards. This includes analytics, site architecture, content management, and user experience Together with the Director, Development Communications, develop a social media plan that integrates marketing strategies and tactics, and leverages content across multiple programs and audiences Lead market research initiatives, analyze and incorporate results into marketing programs Direct creative services for Development to produce high-quality design, on brand Oversee the marketing team and manage relationships of outside agencies, designers, printers, and various promotional material suppliers Provide effective marketing advice and support to the Development team Develop productive relationships with faculty leadership team, academics and students Work professionally and collaboratively with other campus marketers, as well as other members of the Campaign Planning and Donor Engagement teams Keep abreast of current marketing best practices, systems and tools. Qualifications / Requirements: Post-secondary degree in marketing, public relations or related field and a minimum 7-10 years experience in the marketing field. Experience in complex public-sector organizations is desirable; knowledge of the post-secondary education sector is preferred Extensive experience in marketing, advertising, brand management, creative design management, account management, direct marketing, social media, and website development. Demonstrated excellence creating and executing effective marketing plans and programs, leveraging market research data, and developing tactics aimed at various target audiences Experience in marketing-focused writing/editing, creative thinking and production of marketing collateral and publications (print and digital). High attention to detail Technical fluency across both traditional marketing and digital platforms. Strong understanding of how to leverage social media channels to strategic advantage Knowledge and expertise in formulating competitive strategies and practices Expertise in leading a team and strong ability to establish goals and operational benchmarks Proven analytical and problem-solving ability, a strong work ethic and results oriented Excellent project management skills with demonstrated success in planning, organizing and managing projects. Strong ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines and to handle numerous priorities at once. Experience with project management systems and tools Demonstrated ability to work with peers to enhance business process with cross-functional teams.
