Calgary Area Marketing Director, KPMG
The Area Marketing Director operates in the field organization and is responsible for supporting growth at KPMG
in Calgary. This position works closely with the Calgary Regional Managing Partner (RMP) and growth team and
reports to the Executive Director of Functions, Industries and Geographies Marketing, within the National Sales
and Marketing organization (NSM).
This marketing leader will use their knowledge of the Calgary market and KPMG’s service offerings to work with
local leadership to develop marketing strategies that build and maintain KPMG’s position in the marketplace.
This dynamic position requires a strong people leader, with experience at team building and development. The
balance of the role requires partnering with other marketing and delivery professionals, locally and across
Canada, to develop and deploy go-to-market initiatives.
This role requires contemporary marketing and communication capabilities inclusive but not limited to;
marketing strategy, communications, creative thinking, internal consulting skills and people development.
Strategic marketing and communication acumen with a passion for Calgary is key. The candidate possesses
strong business and political acumen with collaborative and superior relationship building skills. The individual
has lead high performing teams and has exhibited strong people leader/trusted advisor skills. Strong
communications skills are required – internal and external. You are organized and able to handle multiple
projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. You have a proactive and collaborative
attitude with true understanding of the agility needed to capitalize on the changing market conditions.
Geographic Marketing & RMP Support
• Drives the local Marketing plan development process, collaborating with RMP, growth leaders and local and
National marketing colleagues.
• Develops tactics and initiatives to implement growth priorities in support of the RMP and growth team.
• Guides the Marketing team to deliver innovative and best practice industry and functional marketing locally.
• Supports the Calgary relationship strategy including anchor sponsorship oversight and relationship
development initiatives.
• Oversees local branding and communication initiatives, in collaboration with National colleagues.
• Manages and leverage the PD budget and increase the impact for $ spent.
Market Development Activity Coordination and Collaboration
• Partners with research resources to evaluate local market share, client mix, and KPMG’s relative strengths
and weaknesses in the marketplace and integrates information into local marketing strategies and tactics.
• Drives the client feedback element of the marketing mix. Integrates key themes of client feedback and
shares insights with Calgary growth and account teams.
• Working with local growth leaders, directs the process to create and refine the Key Account list.
• Works with account teams to leverage relevant industry and functional content and marketing tactics to
support local account development.
• Collaborates with the proposal team to support proposal conversion efforts for large, complex, or key
prospects.
• Leads local efforts for leveraging large national marketing strategies and client-facing events to increase
brand awareness in the market and local community.
Manages Relationships and Internal Networking
• Serves as a senior advisor to Partner-level leaders.
• Cultivates relationships with relevant external organizations in Calgary to support the marketing strategy.
• Develops and maintains productive relationships with marketing peers in KPMG across Canada.
Manages and Develops People
• Plays a key role in the management of the Calgary area marketing team and partners with other field
marketing directors to drive consistent programs, processes and approach.
• Provides formal performance reviews, coaching, mentoring and management for managers.
• Nurtures the team’s professional development and growth.
Experience and Knowledge Required
• Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or a related field required; Master's Degree in Business
Administration preferred.
• Experience in a professional services environment preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of business development, client relationship and team management experience in the
client service industry
• Advanced understanding of Marketing disciplines, multiple functional areas, business strategy, the external
market and KPMG’s value proposition.
• Advanced knowledge of marketing including the development and implementation of strategies behind
marketing products and services and deployment of communications and collateral.
• Knowledge of general consumer behavior principles particularly the application of Business-to-Business
(B2B) marketing principles.
