Aims and Objective
This course is designed for students with secondary biology background with a particular enthusiasm for
Cell Biology and Physiology. From cell to organisms, the structural features and functional properties of
life are discussed. The course covers sub-cellular organization, plant and animal tissues, the major organ
systems and their physiological interactions. Practical sessions train students in the basic laboratory skills
of cellular and physiological sciences.
Intended Learning Outcomes of the Course
On completion of the course, students should be able to
ILO1.describe the structural and functional features of sub-cellular organization and cell membranes;
ILO2.explain the pathways of the flows of energy to maintain life;
ILO3.explain the function of various tissues and organs of animals;
ILO4.explain the function of the vegetative tissues and organs of plants;
ILO5.perform simple experiments in cellular and physiological sciences, and adopt a problem-solving
approach to analyze experimental data.
Syllabus
There are three modules.
