Major focus of this study is on the crystal structure determination of membrane proteins involved in glycerol
and oxidative metabolism in Gram-positive, pathogenic bacteria.

Biological Interface for Ultrasensitive Detection and Signal Transduction
Major goals of this multi-institutional study involve the development of methodologies to link biological
macromolecules to build highly sensitive and specific nanosensors for medical and other applications. This
study includes directed chemical synthesis, protein and DNA engineering, new materials development, and
microfluidics design for the delivery of array sensor systems. Co-PIs: J. Xu, R. Beresford (Brown), S. Zhang
