GABRA1 ANTIBODY TARGET DESCRIPTION:
Synonym Names for GABRA1 antibody: GABRA1; EJM; GABA(A) receptor subunit alpha-1; Gammaaminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor, alpha 1; Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit alpha-1
GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain where it acts at GABA-A receptors. which
are ligand-gated chloride channels. Chloride conductance of these channels can be modulated by agents such as
benzodiazepines that bind to the GA
Function: GABA, the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate brain, mediates neuronal inhibition by
binding to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor and opening an integral chloride channel.
Subunit: Binds UBQLN1 (By similarity). Generally pentameric. There are five types of GABA(A) receptor chains:
alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and rho.
Subcellular Location: Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cell
membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Disease: Defects in GABRA1 are a cause of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) [MIM:606904]. JME is a common
epileptic syndrome characterized by afebrile seizures, onset in adolescence (rather than in childhood) and
myoclonic jerks.
Disease: Defects in GABRA1 are the cause of childhood absence epilepsy type 4 (ECA4) [MIM:611136]. ECA4 is
a subtype of idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) characterized by onset at age 6-7 years, frequent absence
seizures (several per day) and bilateral, synchronous, symmetric 3-Hz spike waves on EEG. During adolescence,
tonic-clonic and myoclonic seizures develop. Absence seizures may either remit or persist into adulthood.
Similarity: Belongs to the ligand-gated ionic channel (TC 1.A.9) family [view classification].
Summary: GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian brain where it acts at GABA-A
receptors, which are ligand-gated chloride channels. Chloride conductance of these channels can be modulated by
agents such as benzodiazepines that bind to the GABA-A receptor. At least 16 distinct subunits of GABA-A
receptors have been identified.
GABRA1 (gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) A receptor. alpha 1) reacts with human.

Order Confirmation: Sales order confirmations are sent out upon the receipt of all orders. Please contact
GenWay if you do not receive a confirmation within 1 business day of submitting your order.
Precautions: GABRA1 antibody is for in vitro research use only. Not for use in diagnostics or therapeutic
procedures.
Important Notes: During shipment, small volumes of GABRA1 antibody vial. For products with volumes of 200
µL or less, we recommend gently tapping the vial on a hard surface or briefly centrifuging the vial in a tabletop
centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container’s cap. Actual concentration, volume and quantity will be printed
on the vial's label. Please refer to the vials label for this information.
