The chloroplast is an elongated organelle of a
plant cell that converts energy from sunlight
into chemical energy. The energy used to
convert water plus atmospheric carbon dioxide
into sugars (photosynthesis) occurs in the
c______.
In every green plant you see the c______ is
working to convert the energy of the sun into
sugars by the biochemical process of
photosynthesis.
There are 5 parts to the chloroplast. The outer
membrane and inner membrane together are
called the c______ envelope.
The smooth outer m_____ is freely permeable
to molecules.
1
The smooth inner m_____ regulates the passage
of small molecules like sugars and proteins in
and out of the chloroplast.
The outer and inner membranes, which regulate
the flow of sugars and proteins in and out of the
chloroplast, are called the c______ e______.
The energy used to convert water plus
atmospheric carbon dioxide into sugars
(photosynthesis) occurs in the c______.
The outer and inner membranes, which regulate
the flow of sugars and proteins in and out of the
chloroplast, are called the c______ e______.
The stroma is an area inside of the chloroplast
where reactions occur and starches (sugars) are
created. The fluid within the chloroplast is
called the s____.
The dense gel-like fluid of the interior
chloroplast is known as the s_____.
2
The thick fluid in between the stacks of
thylakoids is the s_____.
The inside of the chloroplast has fluid called
s_____ that contains thylakoids, small circular
molecules of DNA, and ribosomes.

A thylakoid is a membrane-bound compartment
inside chloroplasts. The location of the light
dependent reactions of photosynthesis occur in
the t_____.
Carbohydrates, such as sugars, are synthesized
from carbon dioxide and water during the
process known as p______.
The compartment, bound by a membrane, that is
the structural unit of the granum (one thylakoid
stack) in the chloroplasts of plant cells is the
t______.
The saclike membrane that contains the
chlorophyll in chloroplasts of plant cells,
necessary for photosynthesis, is the t_____.

The granum is one stack of t_____.

The stroma lamallae is the hollow tube-like
channel that is paired with a stack of thylakoids
(granum). The stacks of thylakoids are
connected by the s______ l_______.
The little tube-like strands connecting
thylakoids from granum to granum are called
s_____ lamellae.
The s____ l_____ act like the skeleton of the
chloroplast, keeping all of the sacs a safe
distance from each other and maximizing the
efficiency of the organelle.
6
The little pancake shaped things are called
thylakoids. A stack of thylakoids is called a
granum. Two or more stacks are called grana.
There can be from 2 to around 100 thylakoids in
one granum. The little tube like strands
connecting thylakoids from granum to granum
are called s____ l_____.
Fluids and nutrients are shared among all the
thylakoids in the chloroplast because of the
hollow tube-like s_____ l_____.
