Committee: Special Political Topic: Global Warming Sponsoring Country: Republic of Indonesia The General Assembly, Deeply disturbed by the increased amount of CO2 emissions to our atmosphere, Concerned with the levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide has enlarged by 31% between 1800 and 2000 and scientists predict carbon dioxide levels could reach 970 parts per million by the year 2100 (over double the levels recorded in 2000), Observing the Intergovernmental panel on Climate’s work with scientific assessments of the magnitude of CO2 emissions, Noting with deep concern the fact that greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), and nitrous oxide (NO2), deplete the ozone layer causing the exposure of the Earth’s surface, the effects of which cause an increase in ultraviolet radiation, causing the threat to marine life, agricultural productions, and human health, Recalling the significance of this issue discussed in Resolution A/RES/43/53, “gases could produce global warming with an eventual rise in sea levels, the effects of which could be disastrous for mankind if timely steps are not taken at all levels,” Fully aware that CO2 emissions can cause increase in sea level which can have serious consequences for Indonesia and similar countries with over 15,000 islands and more than 81,000 kilometers of coastline, 1. Recommends United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, signed by Indonesia and 153 other countries, initiate an education for civilians on the risk that greenhouse gases produce done through advertisement specific per country; these advertisements can propose certain methods to avoid CO2 including purchasing “green electricity” (solar, wind, geothermal power) , recycling, and buying local foods ; 2. Further Invites United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to commerce volunteer organizations differing per country to aid in research and education; 3. Encourages UNFCCC researches the benefits on UN security council imposing sanctions on greenhouse gases; these sanctions can persuade civilians to use clean and more efficient forms of energy; 4. Calls for that a committee of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change be formed to create a scientific research project on the threat of greenhouse gases and technological advancements that involve cleaner forms of energy; 5. Invites the collection of donations caused by the education of civilians to fund these projects; 6. Supports a report to be released on the use of these funds after four years to insure the correct projects in action; 7. Urges participation and expansion of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change from all nations in effort to maintain communication and management of atmospheric protection; the UNFCCC could add a committee specifically designed to sharing knowledge and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases to work toward a safer planet.
