Fundamental attribution error – the tendency to attribute the behavior
of others to internal causes
Actor – observer bias – in making attributions, the tendency to attribute
the behaviors of others to internal causes while attributing one’s own
behaviors to external causes (situations and circumstances)
Self – serving bias - the tendency to attribute success to internal (personal)
factors and failures to external (situational) factors
Just world phenomenon - the need to believe that good people are
rewarded and bad people are punished
Stereotype – oversimplified images of the traits of individuals who belong
to a particular social group
Resolution of cognitive dissonance – an attempt to deal with an
uncomfortable clash between self-images, thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, or
perceptions and one’s behavior
