Module 3 lesson 1.notebook December 12, 2016 Monday, December 12, 2016 Aim: Positive and negative numbers on the number line opposite direction and value Module 3 lesson 1 Classwork: EXPLORATORY CHALLENGE Draw two number lines, one vertical, one horizontal Label the number lines with numbers 0 10 On a horizontal number line, do the numbers increase/decrease as you move further to the right of zero? On a vertical number line, do the numbers increase/decrease as you move farther above zero? What is the starting position on each number line? What is the highest number? Numbers to the right of zero are called positive integers Numbers to the left of zero are called negative integers VOCABULARY INTEGER The set of whole numbers and their opposites 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… 1, 2, 3, 4 COUNTING NUMBERS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ( WE CAN’T COUNT ZERO!!) WHOLE NUMBERS 0, 1, 2, 3, 4... EXERCISES: Label your number lines with 5 to 5 Problem set https://www.mathsisfun.com/wholenumbers.html 1
