Procedure: The teacher will quickly review some of the characteristics observed through student drawings of cells. The teacher will explain that important vocabulary will be presented and that students will need to take careful notes. Vocabulary term note sheet will be distributed. The teacher will then begin by asking students if they are familiar with any of the terms and to share prior knowledge on the subject. Vocabulary definitions will be given and written in bullet format on the smart board. Each term will be discussed briefly and examples asked for and given. Understanding will be assessed continually. Key discussion questions: Give an example of what makes a prokaryote different from the eukaryotic cells? Can you give examples of different levels of cell organization? Closure: The teacher will ask if there are any questions concerning the vocabulary and announce that there will be a short quiz on the cell theory and vocabulary terms the next class.
