Worldwide, the number of genebanks and the amount of seed stored in them has increased substantially over the past few decades.
Most attention is focused on the likely benefits from conservation, but conserving germplasm involves costs whose nature and
magnitude are largely unknown. Because more resources spent on conserving germplasm often means less spent on characterizing
the collection or using the saved seeds in crop-improvement research, knowledge of the costs of germplasm conservation has
important, possibly long run, R&D management, policy, and food-security consequences. Moreover, these costs place a
lower bound on the benefits deemed likely to justify the expense of saving this seed. In this paper we compile and use a set of cost
data for...

Governance Issues in the Principal-Agent Framework: Producing Cellulosic Ethanol in Michigan

This article analyzes the incentives and compensation problems faced by cellulosic ethanol producer and logging firms and the
consequent impact on the organization of the wood based cellulosic ethanol industry in the US. The success of this relationship is
central to setting up the biofuel industry in Michigan and in the US at large. The theoretical results indicate that specification
contract under the principal-agent framework is of limited utility due to’ metering’ problem when the principal contracts with
multiple agents for the supply of feedstock.. Alternative arrangements including JVs have the potential to provide close to first
best solutions.

DETERMINANTES DA ADOÇÃO DE SISTEMAS DE USO DA TERRA EM PÓLOS DE
PRODUÇÃO AGROPECUÁRIA NO ESTADO DO ACRE, AMAZÔNIA BRASILEIRA

produção agropecuária familiar no estado do Acre.
