Sociology 12 Canadian issues Teacher: Mr. Alain Saulnier Introduction to Sociology Social issues What is Sociology? Sociology and anthropology involve the systematic study of social life and culture in order to understand the causes and consequences of human action. Drawing upon various theoretical perspectives, sociologists and anthropologists study such areas as culture, socialization, deviance, inequality, health and illness, family patterns, social change and race and ethnic relations. What is Sociology and how can it help us understand ourselves and others? Sociology is the systematic study of human society and social interactions. We study sociology to understand how human behaviour is shaped by group life and, in turn, how group life is affected by individuals. Our culture tends to emphasize individualism, and sociology pushes us to consider more complex connections between our personal lives and the larger world. Careers in Sociology?
