Team description
The Marketing Selections Officer plays an important role within the Performance &
Insight Team. The team plays a central role in WaterAid’s Supporter Development
Department, providing a range of services that include database systems
management, marketing selections delivery, campaign reporting, marketing analysis
and insight-driven campaign planning. Through these services and the management

of data flows, the team is responsible for supporting the organisation in the
development of marketing and communication strategies and in delivering excellent
supporter care.
Job purpose
Working closely with campaign managers and members of the Performance &
Insight Team, you’ll take responsibility for the provision of accurate data selections
and segmentation for a wide range of fundraising and supporter communication
activities. You’ll also work closely with members of your team to ensure that
marketing activities, campaign coding and communication histories are recorded on
the database accurately and effectively. You’ll ensure that all selections, data loading
and transfer tasks are scheduled and completed to set deadlines.
Accountabilities
1. To work with the campaign planning teams and the Systems & Process
Analyst to run regular data selections and segmentations in an accurate and
timely fashion, in accordance with the agreed brief and deadline;
2. To help ensure data briefs are interpreted accurately and that they deliver the
intended strategy, and to ensure marketing tests are valid and robust;
3. To ensure the marketing coding system and structure is maintained through
the management of coding requests and updating of communications history
on the database;
4. To plan, track and log data selections, to ensure the often congested
timetable of delivery dates is adhered to, and to enable campaign planning
teams to track the progress of their activities;
5. To support other members of the Business Insight Unit in providing in-depth
analysis, post-campaign reporting, and regular pre-defined reports and data
feeds, to inform the marketing strategy of fundraising and campaigns;
6. To participate in database-related projects (e.g. CRM development, third-party
integration projects) where required, and to support the team’s wider role of
managing and maintaining a high-quality supporter database;
7. Participate in Performance & Insight Team planning and undertake other
reasonable tasks as requested by the Systems & Process Analyst, Business
Insight Manager or Performance & Insight Team Manager;

8. To deputise as appropriate for the Systems & Process Analyst.
Person specification
Essential:









Experience of using relational database and analysis packages and working
with large and complex data sets;
Experience of building complex queries and producing data extracts from a
database package;
Demonstrable understanding of Database Marketing principles, preferably
within a Fundraising environment;
Advanced MS Excel skills;
Excellent problem solving and communication skills;
Excellent verbal communications skills;
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience;
Proven ability to work to a high standard and with an eye for detail, working
under own initiative and managing multiple projects simultaneously;
Commitment to WaterAid’s values (Accountable, Always learning,

Desirable:





Experience of writing SQL syntax;
Experience of The Raiser’s Edge fundraising database;
Experience of working with marketing/fundraising information systems in
either a charity or a marketing organisation;
Experience of working with direct marketing agencies;
Qualifications in Information Technology related subjects.
