Some things that you can review or practice for your test include:

 Crossword Puzzle (review of main ideas from chapter)
 Take the Chapter Quiz. Submit it any time BEFORE the test. Print it and bring it
in to your teacher for and extra 5 points on your Chapter 13 social studies test. (If
you don’t have a computer at home you can go to the school library during
homeroom, before or after school to complete the quiz on a computer there. Ask
your teacher for a pass) if the quiz isn’t working, you can complete the crossword
puzzle and turn that in instead.

Be able to summarize the legend of Romulus and Remus in your own words from
beginning to end.
Italy’s geography encouraged growth and trade. Italy was a peninsula and this helped
with trade, and they had protection from the Alps (mountains).
Punic Wars- a series of three long wars with Carthage. They fought over control of trade
routes. Rome won each of the Punic Wars. Hannibal was a great general for Carthage.
Julius Caesar- military leader appointed himself dictator of Rome. He set up many
reforms the plebeians liked them the patricians did not and feared he would make himself
king for life. The senate assassinated him in 44 B.C. It is considered the end of the
republic.
Cicero-distrusted Caesar was a strong supporter of the republic. . After Caesar was
assassinated, civil war broke out. After years of war Octavian defeated his enemies and
became ruler of Rome. Around 27 B.C. Octavian (Augustus) becomes the first emperor
of Rome.
The Romans were influenced and copied many things from the Etruscans and the Greeks.
Know the similarities and differences between a wealthy Roman family and a poor
Roman family (homes, meals, daily life)
Know some similarities and differences between gladiators and modern day professional
athletes.
