
Astronomers and Earth Scientist agree the Earth ,
the solar system and our universe are in a
constantly changing and evolving system that has
been in motion for billions of years.
The Earth (our home planet) has experienced
multiple extreme climate changes and at least 5
major mass extinction events over the 4.6 Billion
years after its formation.
As we have learned Meteorologist, Climatologists,
Geologist, Oceanographers and Astronomers work
independently to study our Earth, but we they
combined the findings of their research of the past
and present sometimes they lead us to vastly
different outcomes of the Earth’s (and our) future.
This often leads to controversy and debate amongst
the scientific community and ultimately the people
of the world.
The Great Debate: An Introduction

Some Glaciologist find evidence of Earth’s rapid
climatic change in a 2 mile deep ice cores from
Greenland’s ancient glaciers (hundreds of
thousands of years old) that contain vastly
different atmospheric chemistry than today and
the evidence of rapid global climate change.

Some Climatologist that have analyzed millions
of points of data from weather stations and
weather satellites of Earth’s present atmosphere
looking for trends that would suggest a ten
degree increase in global temperature and proof
of global warming have been to date
inconclusive.

Some Oceanographers have observed changes to
the temperature and life within the Earth’s
oceans. Their acceptance of global warming has
lead them towards looking for solution to the
unavoidable climatic change.

The Great Debate: Background Info
Global Warming

Over the course of the last semester, we have
discussed the foundations of problems solving
and the scientific knowledge to understand and
formulate a stance on this Great Debate.

Over the course of the year we have discusses the
scientific method, ethics of scientist, multiple
maps and mapping tools, Earth’s atmosphere,
weather and climate factors.

Now is the time to apply your knowledge and the
tools that you have been equipped with to make
a decision on the events that are going in the
world around you!

A. What is a Climate System?
B. Climates come a long way!
C. The Climate Detectives
Let’s here from some the
Detectives (A.K.A. Scientists)
themselves?
The Great Debate:
The climate change Detectives!

Can we change the climate?
So what is the big deal?
The Great Debate:
Now that you are informed!
Global Warming

Natural Cycles' of
Environmental
Climatic Change
Do you still base you ideas of
global warming only by what
you see in the movies?
Check these clips out to see Hollywood’s view of the
Global Climate change.

Review your information from
your PowerPoint guideline,
from the websites in this
PowerPoint and then analyze
your facts without bias and
using proper ethics as
scientist do …
The Great Debate: A conclusion
Global Warming

Make an informed,
educated conclusion!
Are Humans Changing Earth’s Climate ?
or is it

The Great Debate:
An Informed Personal Conclusion
Global Warming

Now state your informed,
personal conclusion to the
issue
“Are Humans Changing Earth’s Climate
or is it Earth’s Natural Climate Change Cycle? “
