Year 1 English Homework Term 1, 2017 Every night your child should be: Reading (library book, Reading Eggs, listening to a parent read) Sight word practice Spelling strategy practice (This will be provided by the English class teacher.) Below are some strategies that your child can do to help learn their spelling strategy or their sight words. Rainbow Writing Write each letter in your words a different colour. Word Boxes Write your words then draw boxes around each letter. Write Words in a Sentence Write sight words or spelling strategy words into a sentence. Word Search Create a word search with your sight words or spelling strategy words. Magazine Cut Out Scrambled Spelling Write your words out all mixed up then write them out the correct way. Cut out letters from newspapers or magazines to make words. Alphabetical Order Write your sight words or spelling strategy words in alphabetical order. Type words on a computer Type sight words or spelling strategy words onto a computer. Word Hunt Search for words in books or around the house. Memory Create two sets of cards with your sight words or spelling strategy words and play memory. ** From time to time, students will have homework related to other learning areas such as History, Science, etc. Please ensure that your child completes these tasks as they form an important part of the following classroom lessons in the respective subject areas.
