INC 551 Artificial Intelligence Lecture 10 Introduction to Mobile Robotics World Model Agent Action Make Decision Environment World Model Sense, Perceive Robot “A re-programmable, multi-functional manipulator designed to move material, parts, tools, or specialized devices for the performance of various tasks” (Robotics Industry Association, 1985) “A machine able to extract information from its environment and use knowledge about its world to act safely in a meaningful and purposeful manner” (Ron Arkin, 1998) “An autonomous system which exists in the physical world, can sense its environment and can act on it to achieve some goals” (Maja Mataric, 2001) ความหมายของ Robotics Robotics is the study of robots, autonomous embodied systems interacting with the physical world Robotics ประกอบด้ วยส่ วนหลัก 3 ส่ วน • Perception • Interaction • Action History of Robotics 1921: Karel Capek’s play Rossum’s Universal Robots 1948: W. Grey Walter’s Tortoise Robot เป็ น mobile robot ตัวแรก ชื่ อ “Machina Speculatrix” 1 photocell, 1 bump sensor, 1 motor, 3 wheels, 1 battery เดินหาแสงสว่ าง 1956: Artificial Intelligence ถือกาเนิดที่ Dartmouth University โดย Marvin Minsky, John McCarthy, Herbert Simon Search, plan, logic representation, etc. 1960s: Shakey เป็ น mobile robot ตัวแรกที่ program ได้ Stanford Research Institute (SRI) มีกล้ องติดอยู่ ใช้ vision ช่ วยในการเคลื่อนที่ ใช้ STRIP planner Deliberative systems Stanford cart (1977)/ CMU Rover(1983) ต้ นแบบของการใช้ sonars / vision ประกอบกัน สร้ าง world model 1986: Rodney A. Brook (MIT) สร้ าง Subsumption architecture (Behavior-based) Robot Control • Reactive Control – Don’t think, (re)act. • Deliberative (Planner-based) Control – Think hard, act later. • Hybrid Control – Think and act separately & concurrently. • Behavior-Based Control – Think the way you act. Reactive Control: Don’t think, react! • Collection of stimulus-response rules • ข้ อดี – Simple – Fast • ข้ อจากัด / ข้ อเสี ย – No memory – No internal representations of the world – Unable to plan ahead – Unable to learn Example On/Off Sensor 2 On/Off Sensor 1 High/Med/Low Sensor 3 Reactive Robot Robot มี sensors 3 ตัว จะทาการสร้ างตาราง map sensor/action ได้ sensor 2x2x3=12 แบบ ตาราง mapping sensor และ action Sensor1/2/3 Action Off/Off/Low Off/Off/Med Off/Off/High Off/On/Low Off/On/Med : : เดินหน้ าเต็มที่ เดินหน้ าช้ าๆ เลีย้ วขวา เลีย้ วซ้ าย เดินหน้ าช้ าๆ : : Potential Field Method Robot เคลื่อนทีจ่ ากจุดหนึ่งไปอีกโดยมีสิ่งกีดขวางอยู่ตรงกลาง Goal Field ต้ านจาก obstacle Field ดูดจาก goal Note: เวลาใช้ งานจะคานวณเฉพาะที่ robot อยู่เท่ านั้น ข้ อดี จะมี infinite number of reactions ข้ อเสี ย สามารถ stuck ที่ local minima ได้ ง่าย Total Motor Schema Method โดย Ronald Arkin (Georgia Tech, 1989) เป็ น reactive architecture แบบหนึ่งโดยจะมองทุกอย่ างให้ เป็ น vectors เพื่อนาทั้งหมดมาสร้ าง potential field โดยมีหลักการดังนี้ • Responses represented in uniform vector format • Combination through cooperative coordination via vector summation • No predefined schema hierarchy • Arbitration is not used • Each behavior has its contribution to the robot’s overall response • Gain values control behavioral strengths Avoiding obstacles Staying on Corridor Deliberative Control: Think hard, then act! The robot uses all the available sensory information and stored internal knowledge (world model) to create a plan of action: sense → plan → act (SPA) paradigm ข้ อดี • Capable of learning and prediction • Finds strategic solutions ข้ อเสี ย • Planning requires search through potentially all possible plans, which takes a long time • Requires a world model, which may become outdated • Too slow for real-time response Example หุ่นยนต์ เดินตามเส้ น เก็บกล่ อง (4,4) box (1,2) (1,1) Robot ทราบว่ าตัวเอง อยู่ตาแหน่ งไหน Example: Shakey AI-based robots used computer vision Techniques to process visual information from cameras Planning: Looking ahead at the outcomes of possible actions, searching for a sequence that would reach the goal. The world is represented as a set of states A path is searched that takes the robot from the current state to the goal state Deliberative, planner-based architectures involve the sequential execution of three functional steps: Sensing (S) Planning (P) Acting (A), executing the plan เรียก SPA SPA has serious drawbacks for robotics Disadvantages of SPA • Time-scale: ใช้ เวลา search นานมากกว่ าจะครบทุก state • Space: ใช้ memory มากทีจ่ ะแทน state ครบทุก state • Information: world model ไม่ ค่อย correct และ up-to-date Hybrid Control: Think and act independently & concurrently! เป็ นการรวมกันของ reactive and deliberative control • Reactive layer (bottom): deals with immediate reaction • Deliberative layer (top): creates plans • Middle layer: connects the two layers Usually called “three-layer systems” รับเอาข้ อดีจากทั้ง reactive และ deliberative ข้ อเสี ยคือยุ่งยากโดยเฉพาะการออกแบบ middle layer • Reactive and deliberative layers operate on very different time-scales and representations • These layers must operate concurrently เป็ นแบบทีใ่ ช้ กนั อย่ างแพร่ หลายในปัจจุบนั Example: Atlantis โดย E. Gat, Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), NASA, 1991 Three layers: Deliberator: planning and world modeling Sequencer: initiation and termination of lowlevel activities Controller: collection of primitive activities Block Diagram of Atlantis Behavior-Based Control: Think the way you act! “Thinking” is performed through a network of behaviors utilize distributed representations • Respond in real-time • ใกล้ แบบ Reactive • มี world model ขนาดเล็กๆในแต่ ละ behavior module • Allow for a variety of behavior coordination mechanisms • อาศัยความฉลาดของมนุษย์ มาประกอบ behaviors แต่ ละอันเข้ าด้ วยกัน Subsumption Architecture Rodney A. Brooks, MIT, 1986 Traditional (SPA): sense – plan – act Subsumption Idea Principle of Design • Systems are built from the bottom up • Components are task-achieving actions/behaviors (avoid-obstacles, find-doors, visit-rooms) • All rules can be executed in parallel, not in a sequence • Components are organized in layers, from the bottom up • Lowest layers handle most basic tasks • Newly added components and layers exploit the existing ones Subsumption Design • Behaviors มีอะไรบ้ าง จะขึน้ กับ task • แยก task ออกเป็ น behaviors ย่ อยๆแต่ ละอัน • ออกแบบ behavior ทดสอบแยกกันทีละอัน • เพิม่ behavior เข้ าไปทีละอัน • ใช้ หลัก suppression/inhibition และความฉลาดของมนุษย์ ในการประกอบ behaviors เข้ าด้ วยกัน Subsumption Layer First, we design, implement, and debug layer 0 level 2 level 1 Next, we design layer 1 When layer 1 is designed, layer 0 is taken into consideration and utilized, its existence is “subsumed” level 0 sensors As layer 1 is added, layer 0 continues to function. Continue designing layers, until the desired task is achieved actuators Suppression & Inhibition กลไกในการประกอบ behaviors เข้ าด้ วยกัน Higher layers can disable the ones below level 2 level 1 level 0 Avoid-obstacles can stop the robot from moving around inhibitor Layer 2 can either: Inhibit the output of level 1 or Suppress the input of level 1 s inputs I suppressor The process is continued all the way to the top level AFSM outputs Example Safe wander (Brooks, 1986) Emergent Behavior การประกอบกันของ behaviors หลายๆอย่ างอาจจะทาให้ เกิด behavior อีกอันหนึ่งทีค่ าดไม่ ถึงเรียก “Emergent behavior” ซึ่งเกิดจาก 2 สิ่ ง • A robot’s interaction with the environment • The interaction of behaviors เช่ น • If too close on the left, turn right • If too close on the right, turn left • Otherwise, keep straight Wall Following • The robot has no explicit representations of “walls” • The controller does not specify anything explicit about following Example: Flocking สามารถ design ได้ จาก behaviors เหล่ านี้ • Don’t get too close to other robots • Don’t get too far from other robots • Keep moving if you can
