What are they??
What is a pronoun?
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. The word
that the pronouns refers to is called the antecedent.
Example:

The girl cried after she fell down.

“Girl” is the noun in the sentence. “She” is the pronoun. “Girl”
is the antecedent in the sentence.

Personal Pronouns
• These words refer to people or things:
I, me, my, mine, you, your, yours, he, him, his,
she, her, hers, it, its, they, them, their, theirs, we,
us, our, ours.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Person
Pronouns are used in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person.
1st person – when you are talking about yourself
2nd person – when you are talking to someone
3rd person – when you are talking about
someone or something.

• Did you find your wallet?
• He found his wallet.

Subject Pronouns
• These pronouns are used as the subject of a
sentence or the predicate pronoun.
predicate pronouns are pronouns that come after a
linking verb and renames, or refers to, the subject.
