Reassessment Ticket PE #8 DNA Structure, Biotechnology, and its use in Conservation Biology Name ___________________________________________________________ Note: the requirements listed should not be considered a penalty. They are designed to make sure you are prepared to reassess. Before you reassess complete the following checklist: Correct all the questions you missed on the assessment on a separate sheet of paper. The corrections should include the correct answer and a summary explaining why you answered it incorrectly (note: “IDK” is not an acceptable explanation). Correct only the questions in the section(s) for which you plan to reassess (i.e. Level 2, Level 3, and/or Level 4) Read and study chapters 12.1 (pg. 287), 13.1 (pg. 319), and 13.2 (pg. 322) in your biology textbook. Complete the following assignments and have them stamped if not already completed: o o o o o o #9- What is DNA? #10- Gel Electrophoresis Simulation #13- Dye Electrophoresis Lab (pay close attention to pages 1 & 2) #15- Chapter 13-2 homework #18- Genetic Engineering through Bacterial Transformation #21- DNA structure & replication POGIL (pay close attention to model 1) Read the performance expectations for this unit (opposite side of this page) Sign up for a time during my office hours to reassess. Attach all your completed work (including your original test) to this reassessment ticket, and bring it with you to the reassessment. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Teachers Notes: Performance Expectation #8 DNA Structure, Biotechnology, and its use in Conservation Biology 2- Developing: I can summarize the structure of DNA and an individual nucleotide. I can summarize the pairing rules for nitrogen bases within the structure of DNA. I can recognize that sections of DNA that code for proteins are genes. I can identify that the sections of DNA used for DNA profiling are not made up of genes, but nucleotides between the genes. 3 – Proficient: Level 2 achievement. Plus, I can I can explain the process of DNA profiling by gel electrophoresis, and the process used to identify a population or specific organism. o I can model the role of restriction enzymes in DNA profiling I can provide examples of how biotechnology uses DNA analysis and genetic engineering to help solve societal issues. I can design, evaluate, and refine a solution for reducing the impacts of elephant poaching on the environment and biodiversity. 4 – Exemplary: Level 3 achievement. Plus, I can I can apply my understanding of these concepts to analyze a related real-world challenge (e.g. endangered species, ethics of genetic testing, genetic engineering, etc.) and specify qualitative and quantitative criteria and constraints for solutions, including cost, safety, and reliability, as well as possible social, cultural, and environmental impacts.
