Biology Review Unit for Anatomy
Each of the following are activities that will be due on September . There is a written portion
for each activity that will need to be sorted in the order given on this sheet and stapled together.
Some activities may also require the signature of another person with whom you chose to work
with. All papers can be hand written unless otherwise indicated. You may work on them in any
order, unless otherwise indicated.
1. _______Cell Vocab-- Define the following terms in your own words. Be sure to explain what
each organelle’s function is and how it contributes to the cell as a whole.
Mitochondria (include basic info about Citric Cycle and Glycolosis), Golgi Apparatus,
Nuclear membrane, Ribosomes (rRNA), Peroxisomes, Lysosomes, Endoplasmic
Reticulum (smooth and rough), Plasma Membrane, Cytoskeleton, Vescicles.
2. ______ Research three types of specialized cells in the human body. Sketch a drawing of
each of the cells and label any parts you can. Write a descriptive paragraph for each
that explains how each cell has differentiated to have it’s form fit it’s function.
3. _____ Using the given beads in the boxes, or playdoe put together a model of a double
strand of DNA that is 4 codons long. Label the strand with the following terms:
Codon, Nitrogenous Base (A,T,C,G), Phosphate, Deoxyribose, and Hydrogen. Create
one mutation on your strand. Ask me to sign for your model after you are done
(there must be at least 10 min left in class when you ask me to sign). Make a sketch of
your model, including labels.
4. ______ Find a Youtube animation of Mitosis, and take notes on all it’s phases, and what takes
place in those phases. Write the exact full title of the Youtube. _________________________
___________________________________________________. Create a game, song, poem, drawing,
book, etc. that depicts the process of mitosis.
5._____ Watch this video (there are no words) and either write a descriptive paragraph about
having cancer, or cut and paste an excerpt or poem from someone else that shows the
connection between human emotion and this disease that allows cells to divide as
quickly as they want. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeUANxFVXKc Cancer:
Unregulated Cell Division.
6. ____ Complete the Chemistry review sheet. Be able to do problems similar to those on this
sheet.
7. _____ Choose a partner and spend 15 minutes quizzing each other over the anatomy vocab
words for the quiz on the 12th. Have them sign here for completion.

8.______ Choose one element that is used in the body and type a half page paper on it’s
function and importance. Be sure to include where specifically it is used, and any pertinent
chemical it may have. (Cite 2 sources)
9.______ Using the given “Onion” slides find a small piece of the tip of the root to focus on. Use
the 3rd level objective. With a partner identify at least one cell that is in each of the
mitotic phases. Which phase do you see most often? Which phase do you see least?
On separate sheets of paper explain your answers. Have your partner sign
here_____________________________________.
10._____ Using one of the articles posted on the web site, write a response paper that follows
the prompt for that article. Be sure to cite evidence from the article that supports
your answer.
