Essential Question: How do cell reproduce?
Learning Targets:
1. Describe the life cycle of a cell.
2. Identify the checkpoints that exist in the cell cycle.
3. Explain the process/stages of mitosis.
4. Describe the end products of mitosis.
5. Explain the process/stages of meiosis.
6. Describe special events that happen during meiosis that results in
the production of genetically different daughter cells.
7. Differentiate between the processes of mitosis and meiosis.
8. Differentiate between the end products of mitosis and meiosis.
9. Describe the purpose of checkpoints that exist in the cell cycle.
10. Explain the events that occur during the cell cycle that leads to the
development of cancer.
General Education Objectives:
 Critical Thinking: Students will demonstrate an ability to consider validity
of ideas, be they scientific or nonscientific.
 Ethics: Students will demonstrate the ability to apply ethical judgment in
making informed decisions about the application of biological techniques
and knowledge to their lives.
 Social Responsibility and Citizenship: Students will demonstrate an
understanding of the problem-solving character of science as it applies to
societal issues related to application of biological techniques.
 Oral and Written Communication: Students will demonstrate the ability to
write clearly about concepts and application of relevant topics in biological
science that are introduced in the class.
