Mesosaur Fossils
Mesosaurs were reptiles that lived hundreds of millions of years ago. Today’s scientists
found fossils of these creatures on the southern tips of both South America and Africa.

How are these fossils evidence of plate movement? Explain your reasoning.
Answers will vary. Since mesosaurs are reptiles that couldn’t swim across an entire
ocean, they must have lived when the two continents were one. South America and
Africa then split due to plate movement, so we find different, related fossils on each.
