UNIT 1 – THE CELL (INCLUDING SCIENCE AS INQUIRY INTRO) (13 DAYS)
1. Overview
This unit introduces the students to the basic structure of cells and their differences, stressing the comparison of plant and animal cells, the differences
between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, transport mechanisms, the role of enzymes, and the characteristics used to define life. It will begin with an
introduction to Science as Inquiry; however, the Science as Inquiry Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) will be integrated within the curriculum throughout
the year.
Note – The unit numbers and sequence in this document do not correspond with the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum (LCC) Unit numbers. The
content should be taught in the order listed in this document for best progression and scaffolding of knowledge. For a correlation between this document
and the LCC, refer to the Biology Course Scope, Sequence, and Suggested Timeline.
