Core Lab # 3 – Observing the Cell Cycle Biology 3201 Student Name: ____________________________ Student Instruction Sheet and Lab Template Instructions 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Open your book and read pages 466 – 467. Follow the procedure and safety guidelines as outlined in the book. Answer the questions and make your drawings as outlined in the procedure. Use the template below to record your drawings and/or answers to questions. Submit the completed Lab with the following name “B3Lab3_Cellcyle_yourname” Save it as a pdf document. Background for observing plant cells in a root tip Plants constantly undergo active mitosis within the tips of their roots. However, to observe cells in mitosis, one does not look at the tip of the root. Rather, we look at the group of cells just behind the root tip. It is here that cells are dividing to replace cells lost/damaged at the root tip as the root tip moves through the soil in search of water. When completing this lab, be sure to observe the cells behind the root tip to find cells in active mitosis. USE THE PICTURE BELOW TO GUIDE YOU!
