Protein Synthesis Lab DNA mRNA Protein First things first…. • Take 1 notecard and write all 3 group members names on the card. STEP 1 Building a DNA Molecule • You have been given the DNA template strand. • Remember DNA is read is 3’s – draw a vertical line between every triplet. • Fill in the complementary strand of the DNA molecule. • Draw a vertical line between every triplet. • Each student is in charge of 3 triplets. Write each student’s name under the triplets they are in charge of. STEP 2 Do the template strand first! Building the DNA Template Strand • Each student needs 3 notecards. • 1 notecard = 1 triplet • Copy down the triplets of the template strand you are assigned. • Using the yarn, begin tying your template strand together. STEP 3 Now build the complementary strand! Building the Complementary Strand • Each student needs 3 notecards. • 1 notecard = 1 triplet • Copy down the triplets of the complementary strand you are assigned. • Using the yarn, begin tying your complementary strand together. STEP 4 Tie the template strand and complementary strands together STEP 5 Lastly • Fold up your completed DNA molecule and place in a Ziploc bag. • Also place the card with your names on it in the Ziploc bag where I can see it. • Turn in to the box at the front. • Please clean up your area.
