Which borough or boroughs do you
work in?
Briefly describe what work you have
you done in the last 2 years
regarding climate change, including
how you have involved the local
communities you work with.
Greenwich
GAVS has worked to achieve Carbon Smart Blue and Silver
Awards. This has included ways to reduce carbon energy
emissions and other environmental improvements within our
own office and staff operations (eg. lighting, heating,
recycling, suppliers, travel etc). It has also involved us
promoting this to our member organisations and partners.
Max 400words
Have you worked with other VCS,
statutory or private sector
organisations to develop and
implement this work and improve
your outcomes? If so please
describe with whom and how.
Max 300 words
Tell us about the outcomes of this
work, including any barriers and
important lessons you would be
willing to share with others?
Max 400 words
Any other comments?
GAVS has also established and developed a ‘Forum Green’
group, for organisations based in our building to work
towards raising awareness and reducing carbon emissions
within the ‘Forum @ Greenwich’ (eg. advocating for
changes, which were made, to the Forum’s lighting, heating,
recycling, suppliers etc and holding a ‘launch’ and pledge).
Yes – see above.
See above. GAVS’ office is based within a larger community
centre building (Forum) and so there is a limit to the change
that we can directly make to our lighting, heating etc.
However, working with the Forum and the other
organisations based here has helped to advocate and
achieve changes.
Funding and time capacity are always constraints.
We were disappointed to learn that for us to work towards
the Carbon Smart Gold Award, we would now have to pay a
fee. We are still considering whether we are able to afford
this.
There were a few confusions with the audit e.g. with travel.
Not sure how credible the audit and assessment of our
carbon reductions were?
Apart from above, workshops, support and feedback from
LCRN & Carbon Smart were good though!
Energy savings made:
From October 2008/October 2009 to December 2009/December 2010 GAVS has
reduced its:
1. emissions per employee by 2%
2. electricity and gas consumptions per employee by 20% and 4.5% respectively
