Chapter 6.1
The Roman Republic
Making Inferences 156- The reason that I believe that the plebeians were prevented from holding
important positions was because they were a lower class than the higher up patricians. If you add more
lower class, they are going to want to in a way change it to benefit their people but the higher class just
wanted things for them so they prevented it from happening.
Interpreting Charts 157- The Roman Republic and the United States of American have similarities such
as they both have members of the senate even though they are elected differently. They both have a
sense of the U.S Constitution where they have laws set out for the people to abide by. Both uses judges
and justices. 2. The United States of America because we elect our president and things like that where
as the Roman Republic does in a way, but it's only certain people that get to vote and its the people that
have higher levels that are.
Analyzing Issues 158- Basically, if Rome conquered anyone, they became an ally to Rome which let
them go and conquer more places, and letting them expand more.
Drawing Conclusion 159- The Punic wars are important because Rome's victories in them, gave them
dominance over the western Mediterranean.
Review
3. They were under restrictions such as, not being able to control the others in Rome, and they
couldn't just fight and become king, they were under the kings rule.
4. The twelve tables were a set of rules just like the Constitution for us. It sets up the government
and what the people have to follow.
5. Hannibal was different because he had assembled an army of 50,000 infantry, 9,000 calvary,
and 60 elephants with intention of capturing Rome. He was a great military strategist. He did
win a few battles, but lost most of his men and pretty much all of his elephants.
6. I believe that the Roman Republic owes most of it's success to it's army because it's the one that
defended the borders and kept things in order. It took out threats and such to keep Rome safe.
