Periodic Table Vocab and Notes
Subatomic Particle: Particles that are smaller than the atom are called subatomic
particles. The three main subatomic particles that form an atom are protons, neutrons,
and electron.
Atom: An atom is the smallest constituent unit of ordinary matter that has the properties
of a chemical element.
Ancient Greece only defined four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water
The modern periodic table identifies 118 known elements on the periodic table.
Chemical Symbol: Letters chosen to represent the element on the periodic table
Atomic #: Is the number of protons in the atom
Mass #: Mass of the nucleus includes the mass of the protons and the neutrons
Electrons- Negative
Protons- Positive
Neutrons- Neutral
