Common Core Standard covered in this topic:
Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
Place value is the value of the place a digit has in a number. Be sure to be able to
name the place and value of each digit in the chart below.
The 2 is in the thousands place.
The 2 has a value of 2,000.
A period is a group of 3 digits in a number, starting from the right. Two periods
are separated with a comma.

Students should be able to read and write numbers through the thousands.
All numbers are made from the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.
There are different ways to represent a number.
Standard Form: 2,106
Expanded Form: 2,000 + 100 + 6
Word Form: two thousand, one hundred six
Students will locate and write numbers on a number line.
Students will identify the pattern on a number line.
Students will find the halfway number between two consecutive tens, hundreds, or
thousands.
Students will round numbers to the nearest ten or hundred.
When rounding to the tens place, look at the number in the ones place. If
the ones place is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, round down. If the ones places is 5, 6, 7, 8,
or 9, round up to the next ten.

When rounding to the hundreds place, look at the number in the tens place.
If the tens place is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4, round down. If the tens places is 5, 6, 7,
8, or 9, round up to the next hundred.
