At Level 2, students model the place value of the natural numbers from 0 to 1000. They order numbers and count to 1000 by 1’s, 10’s and 100’s.

Traffic Lights/Mastermind –
start with 3 digit number then
move to 4 digit number
Make me a number – students draw out a 3 or 4 digit number and make it using Place Value
boards and MAB sets. Verbally talk about how the number is made up using thousands,
hundred, tens and ones.

Tell me something about 1000.
Pick it out – starting with 3 digits, moving to 4 digits. Verbally discuss how the number is made
up. Look at what the chance of drawing out numbers is.

students numbers and place
themselves in order. Start with
3 digits and move to 4 digits.
Traffic Lights – Play game only
using thousands. Have
students read competed
numbers.
Extended notation – make

My number is….. similar to the tens and ones sheet students will use photocopied Base 10 to
stick on a number, they will then complete the sentences. “My number is…..” “It has ____
thousands, ____ hundreds, ____ tens, ____ ones.”
