Republic
Citizens have the right to vote for
their leaders
Most powerful part of government was
the senate
The leaders rule in the name

Ordinary citizens
They could not hold office or be
senators
Consul

Consuls only ruled for one

Rejection of a bill by the leader
If only one of the consul said “Veto” (forbid
it) the matter was dropped
Dictator
Had all the powers of a king, but could only
hold office for 6 months

Structures that carried water over long
distances
They were huge arches that were many

in arenas
Circuses could be violent
Any Roman went to the circus
no matter if they were rich or

Epistle
Written letters to Christian groups in
distant cities
Many of these epistles became
part of the Bible
Martyr
People who choose to die for a cause they
believe in
Martyrs were looked at as
heroes

Mercenary
Foreign soldiers who serve only for pay
These soldiers do not fight
for cause
They switch sides if it is for
their personal advantage
Inflation
The more money made, the less value it had
Inflation cannot be controlled and
roman coins soon became worthless
