• A draft summary report distributed.
• Focus groups aimed at learning about perceptions of people
living in rural areas of Southeast Florida, Belle Glade in Palm
Beach County and Key Largo of Monroe County, and the need
to prepare for the health effects of sea level rise and extreme
heat conditions through policies and systemic changes.
• The findings will be translated into recommendations on
topics such as energy efficiency, water and waste
management.
• Final report will reflect the quotes utilized and relevant
recommendations.

Existing Conditions Analysis
• Existing conditions document distributed.
• Steering Committee Comments:
– Assure sources are clearly described for each table.
– Provide details on counts and rates i.e per 1,000 of
number of X
– Lime disease is typically not used since 75% is
transmitted outside of US west nile virus is a good
alternative.
• Steering Committee Questions:
– How will this be used? As a basis for further analysis

Assessment Step 2:
Determine Health Burden Attributed to Climate Change Factors
Proposed to be Mitigated by Recommendations
• Reason for selecting CRA:
– Comparative Risk Assessment (CRA) methodology
applied to facilitate decision-making when various
activities compete for limited resources.
– Research tool and has helped to characterize sea
level rise and heat wave profiles and priorities for
policy implementation on the

Assessment Step 3:
Determine QALYs of Climate Change Impacts Proposed to be
Mitigated by Recommendations
• Methodology established. Step 3 will likely begin
before the end of January, pending completion of
CRA.
