ANCIENT ROME WHO WERE THE ROMANS The Romans were the people who lived in the city called Rome which is situated in Italy. Rome was the greatest city of its time and at one point it had nearly one million people living in it. THE ROMAN ARMY The Roman Army was a large group of soldiers run by Caesar to conquer vast parts of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. The army was organised in a very simple way: 5000 Legionaries (Roman Citizens who were in the army) would form a Legion. A Roman Soldier The Legion would be split into centuries (80 men) controlled by a Centurion. The centuries would then be divided into smaller groups with different jobs to perform. JULIUS CAESAR Caesar was the ruler of the Roman Empire and had immense power and influence over the Roman people. He controlled the roman army, was High Priest and also suggested new laws that the senate approved. ROMAN BUILDINGS The Romans built structures to a grand scale and the were very amazing here are some The Colosseum Arena of Nimes Temple of Jupiter Temple of Bellona THE COLOSSEUM The Colosseum was a enormous building built by labourers run by the emperor of Rome Vespasian and was on a massive scale. The Colosseum was used for entertainment but it was very gruesome. Gladiators would fight to the death while people watched and chanted and also betted who they thought would win. ROMAN DISCOVERIES the romans done quite a lot for us and discovered lots and these are a few: Towns Calendars Building material Roads Plumbing Archaeology Rabbits
