Roman Vocabulary 1. Carthage – powerful ancient city state located in Northern Africa. 2. Hannibal - Carthaginian general who attacked Rome once with elephants through the Alps. 3. Julius Caesar- Military leader who became the first leader of the Roman Republic. Later assassinated for being power hungry. 18. The Twelve Tablets – The first set of written laws used by the Roman Empire. Developed after the plebians revolted.
