Modeling Quantum Fields with Oscillators

Quantum Field Theory models fundamental particles as quantized harmonic oscillators.
Anharmonic terms are added to model their interactions. We want to explore the
analogies between the strange phenomena of the relativistic
quantum world and the more familiar realm of mechanics of oscillators. A numerical
simulation of coupled anharmonic oscillators would allow us to model
particle scattering, solitons and monopoles, among other exotic things. The interested
student should be familiar with undergraduate quantum mechanics and be good with
computers.
