VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre SALES, MARKETING, & PRESS MANAGER Job Specification The Sales, Marketing & Press Manager of VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre will be a key member of a committed team and will report to the Director and/or Theatre Manager or such other person as assigned by the Director. The Sales, Marketing & Press Manager will be responsible for all of the marketing and public relations necessary for the promotion and success of the centre’s artistic programme. In particular, the Sales, Marketing and Press Manager will be key in generating and sustaining a stream of income from both audiences for the theatre programme and clients in the corporate hire sector. The successful candidate will: o Have an interest in the arts o Have excellent administration & organisational skills o Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills o Have a working knowledge of outlook, word, excel, power point & other computer programmes o Excellent financial management skills o Knowledge of Provenue Databox is desirable o A qualification in Marketing and/or Business is desirable Duties and Responsibilities: To have primary responsibility for marketing the artistic programmes of Visual & The George Bernard Shaw Theatre, in consultation with the Director and Theatre Manager To develop and devise marketing strategies aimed at maximising theatre ticket sales, including operating the community sales strategy and other sales strategies as contained in the marketing plan, in consultation with the Theatre Manager. To develop and update the pro-venue databox database, to be proficient in using this tool in the development of general and targeted mail lists and audiences. To organise and effect market research to provide audience segmentation and analysis. To work with the Director and Theatre Manager to provide meaningful insight into the audience characteristics so as to maximise revenue and to identify new audiences for innovative events that diversify our community engagement using all available tools and analysis systems. 1 To work with the Director and Theatre Manager in designing and implementing a Friends Scheme and Seat Sale and to sustain and manage those schemes as an important income generator and audience development tool To work in close collaboration with the Box Office Manager and Front of House & Bar Manager in implementing an effective, customer friendly and efficient customer service. To work in close collaboration with the Front of House & Bar Manager in maximising bar revenue. To explore and exploit mechanisms for communicating with our audiences through new media and social networking. To compile and co-ordinate the centre’s season brochure. To devise and implement the most effective distribution of same, either by post, as a supplement to the local paper or through direct distribution To manage the relationship with concession area operators, as they may arise, such as the bookshop and craft shop. This may involve managing and recording point of sale on behalf of concession operators To manage and update the centre’s website and maintain it as a cutting edge and a strong marketing and communication tool To liaise with visiting companies and artists to plan and co-ordinate effective marketing campaigns where appropriate To maintain the brand of the centre and to co-ordinate, streamline and brand all forms of communication from the organisation To oversee the development of a marketing partnership with the restaurant service provider in collaboration with the Director and external catering partners To work with the Director in developing the centre as a tourist destination, working in partnership with outside agencies such as the Tourist Office, County Museum, the OPW and local hotel industry To manage an annual marketing budget To represent the centre at events, meetings and conferences To act as an approved spokesperson for the venue (together with the Director, Theatre Manager and such others as may from time to time be briefed to undertake this work) To undertake such other tasks, from time to time, as may be reasonably requested by the Director or Theatre Manager. To provide secretariat to the Marketing & Sponsorship Committee. Other duties and obligations: 2 o Act as an ambassador and advocate in representing the centre. o Adhere to stated staff policies and procedures, as set down in the staff handbook o Adhere to procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility o Participate in training and development programmes/courses to maintain and improve performance and to assist in identifying self-training and support needs o Participate and work within a performance management development system process. Requirements: 1. Health Candidates shall be in a state of health such as, would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 2. General Requirements It is important that the appointee is prepared to be flexible. The appointee will require the following skills: A qualification in Marketing and/or Business is desirable Have an interest in the arts Have excellent administration & organisational skills Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills Have a working knowledge of outlook, word, excel, power point & other computer programmes Excellent financial management skills Knowledge of Provenue Databox and audience profiling is desirable. 3. Skills and Attributes: Have a high level of accuracy and acute attention to detail Be self-motivated, reliable and display a high degree of initiative Work well within a team environment Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively Ability to multitask and manage time Flexibility – the appointee will be required to work nights and weekends 3
