Basic Marketing Plan for small businesses Introduction In this document I would like to give a few guidelines to small or new businesses to just let you think about your marketing plan. It is important to zoom out every once in a while and just see what is going on around you and see where things are going. The basic idea is to see opportunities before others do. To react to market changes is vital and it should be a first priority to any business. It is just here where we must start to spend time on the four P's of marketing. PRODUCT, PRICE, PROMOTION AND PLACE Product Our product or service is the most important thing in our business. It is the way through which we generate an income to us, and our staff. Our product or service is what it is all about. But a product or service can be broken down into many aspects. You can be the best plumber or estate agent in the world, but if you are not presented well, your packaging is no good. A good product or service needs a good presentation to make it look fantastic. In terms of signage, you need a clear message. Billboards, light boxes, car magnets, business cards, banners and flags that work for you. Make your advertising material look professional and to the point. Price Many people say price is everything… It might be so, but value for money is our motto. You do not need to be the cheapest or the most expensive just give good value. Pricing is the most difficult part of your business and should not be taken lightly. Spend a little time to investigate the going price for your product or service and then decide who is your target market and price yourself according to them. Promotion A better word to use here is advertise. People think that promotions is only a special price on a special day. It’s not. It is a ongoing advertising strategy that lets potential customers know what you do at what price and where to contact you. Easy as that? No, but it is the punch line. Keep sending the message, someone will hear it and if the message is right and the target is hit, it will happen. Our target at Epila Digital Printing are businesses that need a sign or neon sign or business cards or car signage that works towards their target market. We are not the cheapest or the most expensive… We just try to help you make the most of your advertising effort and in turn it makes the most of ours. Place In some handbooks this is also called distribution. In my opinion a better description because it tells you that you need to bring the product to the people. A good product to describe this with is Coke. The product is available in the smallest and the biggest places on earth. The distribution network has been well, almost perfected. We are a small Pretoria based company in Gauteng South Africa that does signage. There is no such thing as a job to small or to big. We also travel to the rest of South Africa for some of our clients to install billboards and other advertising material. This is our effort to bring our products to you our customers.
