Julius Caesar Assassinated
By Matt Regan
Julius Caesar was recently assassinated after serving a year as
dictator. Julius was supposed to serve as dictator for life before he was
stabbed to death. I am now going to look back on Julius Caesar’s life.
Julius Caesar was born 12 July, 100 BC in Rome Italy. Julius was
born into a patrician family. At the age of 16 his father Gaius Caesar
passed away. 59 BC was the start of his career of working in the
government of Rome. In 59 he served as the consul.
In 69 BC his wife Comelia passed away. Two years later he married
a woman called Pompeia and divorced her only two years later. A year
after his divorce, Julius became a quaestor (an of official who had charge
of public revenue.) of the Roman province Spain.
In 59 BC Caesar returned to Rome after proving himself a great
leader. He was elected to consul, the highest office of Rome. After his one
year service he became the governor of Cisalpine Gaul. After an 8 year
term Julius returns back to Rome for the second time. After proving
himself a loyal and efficient leader, in 44 BC he became dictator for life.
He began using his power to relieve debt and enlarge the senate. Later
that year a group of Republican senators led by Cassius and Brutus
assassinated Julius. This sparked the final round of the civil wars.
