Communications, PR and Marketing Manager
APPLICATION PACK
Background
Leeds Mencap is an ambitious charity with our sights set on helping the future to be better for people with
learning disabilities, their families and carers.
We have done incredibly well so far and raised £2.1 million for the creation of our new centre in the East End Park
area of Leeds but we need a PR, Communications and Marketing professional to help us for the last phase of the
campaign where we need to raise the final £500,000.
Our new centre is more than just a home for our services for children and adults with learning disabilities. The
centre will support a range of local community groups and a new nursery, providing much-needed affordable
childcare places. Offering the potential for transformation in many people’s lives, the new centre will benefit over
2,000 individuals a year and provide a legacy for Leeds.
We need an experienced and ambitious individual who’ll be able to hit the ground running and help us to create
as much PR and awareness of what we’re doing between now and the end of the campaign in April/May. You may
have worked in similar roles and might have existing contacts that you can bring to support you in this role.
The existing post holder is leaving to take up a permanent dream job in early December so we really need
someone who can start immediately to ensure we retain the momentum on the campaign.

You will be experienced in a wide range of communications, PR and marketing techniques through a
broad range of channels including traditional above and below the line, offline and online, digital and
social media.

Your drive and sense of purpose will mean that you can see us through this exciting but busy period of
change and growth, significantly raising our profile during our capital appeal.

A creative thinker, you’ll be used to developing innovative campaigns and ideas and maximising small
budgets.

You’ll have experience and be comfortable working with, building and developing positive working
relationships with journalists, businesses, clients and colleagues.

In addition to delivering a communications, PR and marketing strategy for our new building, you’ll also
have the ability to develop and implement systems and processes to enable the organisation to manage
its communications both internally and externally in years to come.
In order to respond to this challenge you’ll need to be knowledgeable, experienced, able to think strategically but
also be hands-on and have strong analytical and evaluation skills. It goes without saying that you’ll have
excellent written and verbal communication skills.
For more information about our campaign, go to www.leedsmencap.org.uk/spaceforme.
For more information or an informal discussion about the post, please call Sarah Hooker on 0113 2351331 or

The closing date for this role is the 7th December 2015.
We will be interviewing on the 14th December 2015.
